What a small-business website costs in New Zealand (2026)
Typical NZ price ranges for starter, business and e-commerce websites — and the costs people forget, like domains, hosting and copy.
If you’ve asked three web designers for a price, you’ve probably had three very different answers. Here’s how pricing typically breaks down for New Zealand small businesses in 2026, based on publicly listed prices from NZ studios.
Three tiers
- Template sites (1–5 pages): roughly $500–$1,300 +GST. Fast to launch, good for trades and services that mainly need a phone number, a few service pages and a quote form.
- Business sites (5–10 pages, with local SEO): roughly $1,200–$3,700 +GST. More pages, keyword planning, structured data and a blog.
- Online shops and custom builds: from about $3,000 +GST for e-commerce, and $5,500+ for fully custom work.
Monthly hosting is remarkably consistent across the market at about $49 +GST/month, with “care” plans that include edits from about $59–$129/month.
Costs people forget
- Domain name — about $30–40 a year. Make sure it’s registered in your name.
- Copywriting — most packages assume you supply the text.
- Photos — good photos make a cheap site look expensive (and the reverse).
- Payment fees — for shops, Stripe/PayPal/Afterpay take a cut of each sale.
Subscription or one-off?
Subscription sites ($0 upfront, ~$49–$79/month) spread the cost, but check the minimum term and what happens if you leave. A one-off build plus a hosting plan usually costs less over three years.
